Upcoming Events For ASG Colorado Springs July & August 2016

Mark your Calendars for a summer full of Fun with American Sewing Guild Denver and Colorado Springs. Please read through for events in July and August. Most are in the Colorado Springs area, with a few events in the Denver area. 


July 6 (wed.) 2:30-5:00 will be in a new location for one month and that will be on the  first floor room (F1) at the East Library (5550 N Union Blvd).  They have a large computer tablet on the wall and we will use it to introduce everyone to the world of Craftsy. The class that we will be watching is The Artful T- Shirt Class with Marcy and Katherine Tilton. This class features the techniques for sewing a T-shirt that looks like it came from a boutique. It features Vogue Pattern #9057 Go to Craftsy.com to see a preview of the class and the gallery of what students have done with this class. While there sign up for some of the free classes like Mastering Zipper Techniques, Block of the Month, Machine Embroidered Classics and so many more.


July 7-9 is Sew Expo, otherwise known as a candy store for sewers, in Castle Rock at the Douglas County Fair Grounds.  Hope to run into you there to give me advice.


July 9 (Saturday), Thanks to everyone who volunteered to help on with the instruction of how to make polar fleece scarves at the MAKE @ East Library (5550 N Union Blvd on the second floor.  We still need volunteers to sign up for (lost my list who signed up for what times so from Memory:

Set Up 1-2:00 – Joyce, Del

Class 2-3:00 – Jackie, Del

Class 3-4:00 – Jackie, Del

Class 4-5:00 – Jackie, Del

Clean up 5 to 6:00 – Joyce

We need at least 4 people for each shift.  If we have a limited sign up then we will be sewing the scarves, but we hope to be instructing and spending the word about ASG. Please tell your friends about this event and have them sign up at NewPPLD.org


The fair runs from July 16-23, Hope you preregister your Creative Arts entries.  The in town drop off is at the CSU extension office on July 12 from 10-1:00 the drop off at the fairgrounds in Callahan is on July 13 from 3-7:00.  I know that I have seen some Blue Ribbon cash prize winning work in our show and tell.  You might even win a free membership to ASG!


 July 20 (Wed.) 11:30-1:30 this will be salad pot luck at Karen’s house (7715 Delmonico Drive). She promises no street problems this year. Then Karen will present her class she taught at Puyallup Sew Expo entitled “Say Yes to the Fit Dress”.


 July 19: Del will put us in a summer mood with some cute and quick pot holders, with a summer theme.   Lady Bug Hill 929 E. Fillmore St. 6:00 to 8:00 (we meet there after hours so call 719-339-3031 to get in if you come a little late.


Please join us on July 23, 2016 at the Littleton United Methodist Church located at 5894 S. Datura Street, Littleton, CO. For the annual DC ASG fabric sale.  Clearly the best place to find affordable fabrics for that next project or for fabulous muslin like what Carol makes!

August 17 (wed.) How about shopping spree at 10:00 in Monument at 230 Front Street Frankie’s Fabric shop then lunch next door lunch at La Casa Fiesta. Then on to the Quilt shop in Palmer Lake.

September 21, October 19, November 16 (Wed.) 10:00-12:00 I have reserved room F1 at the East Library (5550 N Union Blvd) for September, October, and November They have a large computer tablet on the wall. For September we will introduce everyone to the world of Craftsy. We will discuss the choice of class we want to learn about the wonderful world of Craftsy on at the June Luncheon. Before the class you might want to go to Craftsy .com and see what they have going on in the way of classes, patterns and supplies. While there sign up for some of the free classes like Mastering Zipper Techniques, Block of the month, Machine Embroidered Classics and so many more.
August 16: Now we all know the term “Grandmother’s Flower Garden” is enough to send you running for the hills, but Sue has been studying Nancy’s method that takes the Y seams out and makes it fast and easy.
September 20: Would you love to get that button stash under control, put it to use or at least put it on display where you can enjoy it… Pam will be taking us into the wonderful world of Button Art.

October 18: You know you have seen it on Pinterest, in Nancy’s Notions and you may have even goggled the instructions but now is the time to take that Men’s Dress shirt and turn it into several useful projects. Sue will show you how to make an apron out of the main body of the shirt and Pam will surprise you with what you can do with a sleeve.

August 3: meeting will be back at Lady Bug Hill 929 E. Fillmore St. 2:30 to 5:00 topics are up to the group, Be sure to come to the July 6th meeting to help decide the focus of future meetings and what you would like to learn.

September is National Sewing month so plan to join us in helping the Pikes Peak Library District Celebrate. Welcome to the Colorado Springs American Sewing Guild neighborhood groups.  We have a great summer of sewing fun planned.  We have 3 neighborhood groups.
